We make it profitable to adopt sustainable solutions in retail!

In Norway, we are among the world leaders in energy consumption per capita. A full 1.5% of total energy consumption comes from grocery stores. At the same time, there is unrealized potential to reduce consumption—an opportunity to replace fossil energy in other energy-intensive sectors.

Faster replacement of harmful refrigerants

Reduced risk of failure and food waste

Lower energy consumption, more surplus energy

Freeing up capital for other sustainability initiatives

Sustainability in Our Service

We aim to contribute to a faster energy transition in the grocery sector through our comprehensive subscription service. With our service, customers can avoid costly equipment investments on their balance sheets, making it easier to upgrade to more environmentally friendly energy infrastructure in the store.

A significant environmental issue in the grocery sector today is greenhouse gases, especially HFC gases that leak from refrigeration and freezing systems in stores. Replacing these systems with CO2-based units reduces emissions, but it is often very expensive and may conflict with other investments under consideration.

Our Social Responsibility

Replacing environmentally harmful refrigerants – a government requirement

F-gases have been commonly used in refrigerants for refrigeration systems, air conditioning, and heat pumps. These are potent greenhouse gases, and leaks from them contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Our customers want to use natural refrigerants such as R744 (CO2) and R290 Propane in all their stores. We are well underway with phasing out all remote refrigeration and freezing systems that use refrigerants with a GWP (Global Warming Potential) higher than 150, which are covered by the F-gas regulations.

At Aneo, we are working towards finding solutions for how we can leverage flexibility between buildings in neighborhoods, regions, and in collaboration with the electricity grid to reduce high peak loads and unnecessary energy consumption. This way, we can reduce the need for additional power production and avoid costly upgrades to the electricity grid.

In the short term, we are continually improving all parts of our operations and trying to make sustainable choices wherever possible.

Sustainable Development in Line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable development means taking care of the needs of people today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflect the three dimensions of sustainable development: climate and environment, economy, and social aspects.

At Aneo Retail, we are committed to contributing to sustainable development and have some specific UN goals we are actively working on with our customers.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

SDG 7

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all

SDG 9

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation

SDG 12
